Car Rental at Rimini Airport (RMI): No Deposit, No Credit Card and Full Insurance

Rimini Airport is the small gateway to the Adriatic Riviera, and car rental here comes with one twist: the best-rated companies in the terminal take credit cards only. For one week in November we found 192 offers from 7 companies at the airport, and another 3 well-rated companies in Rimini city that accept debit cards, one of them with no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation. This guide to car rental at Rimini Airport covers the 5 airport companies and 3 city companies we recommend, all rated 8.0 or higher, which of them take a debit card, where the desks are, what the deposit will be, what a rental day costs in each month and how to drive to San Marino and along the Riviera without a ZTL fine. Every company was checked offer by offer in October 2026.

Data last verified: October 2026. Written by Simas Krasaitis, founder of Autorentwiz and former head of car rental at ADCRent.

Short on time? The key facts:

  • Credit card only at the top-rated airport desks: GaldieriRent (9.2), Last Minute Rent (8.6) and Sicily By Car (8.3)
  • Debit cards at the airport: SIXT (about 500-850 EUR deposit on a debit card) and Flizzr (about 500 EUR)
  • Debit cards in Rimini city: Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Noleggiare (600-800 EUR) and Keddy (800 EUR), 7-10 km from the airport
  • No deposit: Locauto in Rimini city (only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation). At the airport, Sicily By Car and GaldieriRent drop to 100 EUR with their own zero-excess cover
  • Revolut and other online-only bank cards: none of the 8 companies accepts them, and our search found no deals without a card at pick-up
  • Where the desks are: in the car rental area of the single terminal: leave arrivals and turn right. Sicily By Car meets you in arrivals
  • Midday break: GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent and Sicily By Car close from about 14:00 to 16:00. SIXT and Flizzr stay open 08:00-22:00
  • Prices: March is the cheapest month (about 20 EUR a day on average), June the most expensive (about 45 EUR)
  • San Marino: about 30 minutes away, with no border checks. Rimini’s historic centre is a ZTL with cameras, so park outside it
  • Free consultation: message us on Messenger and our car rental experts will compare all 8 companies for your dates, card and landing time. You get the same discount as when you book through our search

Car rental at Rimini Airport: the 5 companies we recommend

We analyse every supplier at every airport, because each branch has its own process: the same brand can run a smooth pick-up at one airport and a slow one at the next. Some branches perform well, some do not. At Rimini Airport, 5 companies passed our check, all rated 8.0 or higher by verified renters, from Italian companies such as GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent and Sicily By Car to SIXT and Flizzr. Of the customers who asked us about Rimini and named their card type, 54% had only a debit card, and that is the main problem at this airport: the three best-rated companies take credit cards only. To compare Rimini with other Italian airports, see our car rental in Italy page.

Car rental deposits at Rimini Airport and in Rimini city by company

Car rental at Rimini Airport (RMI): deposits by company, debit card, desk location and opening hours
Car rental deposits and conditions at Rimini Airport and in Rimini city, verified October 2026

At the airport, Sicily By Car starts lowest at 200 EUR on small cars, but blocks up to about 1,500 EUR on bigger classes, and it takes credit cards only. SIXT blocks 300 EUR on a credit card, and more on a debit card, where the block varies with the rental. GaldieriRent and Last Minute Rent block 600-1,000 EUR. Two companies pair a high standard deposit with a very low one when you take their own zero-excess cover in the price: GaldieriRent drops to 100 EUR, and so does Sicily By Car. In town, Locauto in Rimini city asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation at pick-up.

Where is car rental at Rimini Airport?

The car rental desks are inside the single terminal, close to the exit: after you collect your luggage, leave the arrivals hall and turn right into the car rental area, where GaldieriRent and Last Minute Rent work. SIXT and Flizzr are also in the terminal. Rimini Federico Fellini Airport is on the Via Flaminia, in Miramare, about 8 km south of Rimini’s historic centre.

Sicily By Car: meet and greet in arrivals

In our offer terms, Sicily By Car works by meet and greet. When you land, call +39 0541 478656 and an agent meets you in the arrivals area. The flight number in your booking is mandatory, so the company can follow a delay. The Rimini Airport website has the terminal layout and the current bus connections. For Last Minute Rent, keep the phone number from your voucher at hand too: +39 331 366 2060.

Late arrivals and the midday break

Rimini’s local companies keep Italian hours. GaldieriRent and Last Minute Rent close from 14:00 to 16:00 and reopen until 23:00. Sicily By Car also stops for about two hours in the afternoon and works until about 22:30. If you land in the early afternoon or after 22:00, check the hours in your offer before you book. SIXT and Flizzr work without a break from 08:00 to 22:00. Most companies hold the car for 59 minutes after the booked time, and Sicily By Car for 120 minutes. Add your flight number to the booking, and if you land later, change the pick-up time before you fly.

Returning the car

The closest petrol station is the Eni station on the Via Flaminia, a few hundred metres north of the rental area. Fill up there and keep the receipt. Return during office hours if you can, so an agent checks the car and signs it off, and remember the midday break of the local companies.

Car rental in Rimini city: Noleggiare, Keddy and Locauto

Three more companies we recommend work from offices in Rimini city, 7-10 km from the airport. All three accept a debit card, which none of the top-rated airport desks does, and Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation at pick-up. In our search, Keddy and Locauto had offices a few minutes’ walk from Rimini railway station, and Noleggiare about 2 km north-west of the centre. The price is a short transfer from the airport and shorter opening hours.

How to get from Rimini Airport to the city offices

The three city offices are 7-10 km from the terminal. There are three ways to get there:

  • Taxi: the quickest way, about 15-20 minutes to any of the three offices. For Noleggiare, on the north-west side of the city, it is the only practical option
  • Bus line 9: Start Romagna line 9 stops right outside the Departures door and runs along the Via Flaminia to the city centre in about half an hour. In the evening, a faster line 9 shuttle with only three stops links the airport with Rimini railway station, a few minutes’ walk from Keddy and Locauto. Check the times and running days on the Start Romagna line 9 page
  • Metromare: the rapid bus between Riccione and Rimini railway station stops at Miramare Aeroporto, about 1 km from the terminal across the Via Flaminia. A single ticket costs from 2 EUR. The timetable is on the Start Romagna Metromare page

Insider tip from our Rimini bookings: when a customer has only a debit card, we usually send them to the Rimini city offers rather than the airport, because the top-rated airport companies take credit cards only. A short taxi ride to Locauto means no deposit at all, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation at pick-up. Plan the pick-up inside the office hours: the city offices close at lunchtime, and Locauto and Keddy are closed on Sundays.

Can I rent a car at Rimini Airport with a debit card?

Yes, but the choice is small. At the airport, SIXT and Flizzr accept debit cards. SIXT blocks about 500-850 EUR on a debit card, more than on a credit card, and Flizzr about 480-555 EUR. GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent and Sicily By Car take credit cards only. In Rimini city, Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Noleggiare (600-800 EUR) and Keddy (800 EUR) accept debit cards. The card must be a physical Visa or Mastercard in the main driver’s name, with the number printed on it. Maestro is refused by Flizzr, Locauto and Noleggiare. Read more in our guide to car rental in Italy with a debit card.

Renting a car at Rimini Airport with a Revolut card

None of the 8 companies accepts cards from online-only banks such as Revolut, Wise or Monese, at the airport or in the city. Their terms also exclude virtual cards and cards in a phone wallet, and most exclude prepaid cards. In our search there were no deals at Rimini where no card is needed at pick-up, so you will need a physical card from a traditional bank in the main driver’s name. A debit card from a high-street bank works with Locauto, Noleggiare and Keddy in the city and with SIXT and Flizzr at the airport.

Car rental at Rimini Airport with no deposit

In town, Locauto in Rimini city asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation at pick-up, and accepts debit cards. At the airport, the lowest deposit comes with the company’s own zero-excess cover: GaldieriRent and Sicily By Car then block 100 EUR. These packages cost more per day, so compare the full price. Our guide to saving money on car rental explains how to weigh the deposit against the price.

Desk insurance or full coverage at Rimini Airport?

Full coverage bought online with your booking is the cheaper way to cover the excess, and the company’s own cover at the desk is the most expensive one. Every rental price in Italy includes basic insurance with an excess: the amount you pay if the car is damaged or stolen. In our search the excess at Rimini ranged from about 1,200 to 2,200 EUR on most offers. With full coverage the deposit is still blocked: you pay for any damage first and get the money back afterwards. The desk cover removes the excess directly and lowers the deposit. If you already have full coverage, you can decline the desk offer. Film the car at pick-up and at return, as we explain in our car rental pick-up tips. If a dispute starts, message us with the contract: we support you before, during and after the rental.

How much does car rental at Rimini Airport cost?

Across all offers, car rental at Rimini Airport costs about 32 EUR a day on average over the year: about 20 EUR a day for March pick-ups and about 45 EUR a day in June. Rimini is a summer destination, so prices follow the beach season, and March comes out about 38% below the yearly average. January, February and November are almost as cheap as March. Most rentals here last 4 to 7 days, and bookings peak in September, then June and August.

Driving from Rimini Airport: ZTL, San Marino and the Riviera

The airport sits on the Via Flaminia (SS16), the coast road between Rimini and Riccione, so you are on the road within minutes. The A14 motorway runs inland, towards Bologna in the north and Ancona in the south. Further south on the A14, about 2 hours 45 minutes away, our Pescara Airport guide covers car rental in Abruzzo. The roads are easy. What catches renters out are the restricted traffic zones (ZTL): cameras record every plate, and the fine arrives weeks later through the rental company.

Rimini: the ZTL in the historic centre

Photo by Alain Rouiller / Unsplash

Rimini’s historic centre, around the Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius Bridge, and the Borgo San Giuliano quarter are a ZTL watched by camera gates, and since January 2026 the gates issue fines automatically. Rental cars have no permit, so park outside the zone and walk in: the centre is small. If your hotel is inside the ZTL, give the hotel your plate number on arrival so it can register the car. In summer, parts of the seafront promenade (Parco del Mare) have their own access rules. Check the current zones on the City of Rimini website. A ZTL fine is usually 80-335 EUR, and the rental company adds its own admin fee.

San Marino: no border checks

The towers of San Marino on Monte Titano, about 30 minutes by car from Rimini Airport
Photo by Daniel Mačura / Unsplash

San Marino is about 25 km and 30 minutes from the airport, and there are no border checks on the way. None of the rental terms we checked lists San Marino among the countries that need a cross-border fee, but the rules can differ by offer, so check your terms or message us and we will check them for you. The old town on top of Monte Titano is closed to visitors’ cars: use the paid car parks below the walls, or park in Borgo Maggiore and take the cable car up. The official San Marino tourism website lists the car parks and opening times.

The Riviera: Riccione, Cattolica and Cervia

Aerial view of the beach umbrellas and seafront hotels of the Rimini Riviera
Photo by Giordano Rossoni / Unsplash

Many of our customers stay in Riccione or Cervia rather than in Rimini itself. Riccione starts right after the airport, and Cattolica is about 20 minutes further south. Cervia and Milano Marittima are about 45 minutes north. In July and August, seafront parking fills up early and most of it is paid, so ask your hotel about parking before you arrive. For a day in Bologna, about 120 km away, take the A14 and leave the car outside the city’s ZTL. Flying into Bologna instead? Bologna Airport is about 1 hour 17 minutes from Rimini on the A14, and our Bologna Airport guide compares the two airports.

What our customers say

Following friends’ advice we reached out about car rental in Italy, and it was the right call. Fast, responsive communication. We got not only good offers but useful tips as well. I was left satisfied, so I genuinely recommend them!

Gintaras, Google review (translated)

We rented a car online from another company. However, when we got there, we had a conflict with the rental company about the insurance terms. Autorentwiz responded to our messages late in the evening, reviewed the photos of the contract we sent, and was happy to give us useful advice on how to act in a specific situation.

Jurgita, Google review (translated)

This is not the first time you have helped me travel. It’s good when you can enjoy your vacation and not worry about unnecessary things, because you know that everything that is promised will be done. There have never been any problems with the reserved car, they always recommend reliable options.

FAQ: car rental at Rimini Airport

Can I rent a car at Rimini Airport with just a debit card?

Yes, with SIXT (about 500-850 EUR deposit on a debit card) and Flizzr (about 480-555 EUR) at the airport. GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent and Sicily By Car take credit cards only. In Rimini city, 7-10 km away, Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Noleggiare (600-800 EUR) and Keddy (800 EUR) accept debit cards. The card must be a physical Visa or Mastercard in the main driver’s name.

Can I rent a car at Rimini Airport without a credit card?

Yes. SIXT and Flizzr at the airport, and Locauto, Noleggiare and Keddy in Rimini city, accept a debit card instead. In our search there were no deals at Rimini with no card needed at pick-up, so you need a physical debit or credit card in the main driver’s name.

Can I rent a car at Rimini Airport with no deposit?

Not at the airport itself. In Rimini city, about 7 km away, Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation at pick-up, and accepts debit cards. At the airport, GaldieriRent and Sicily By Car lower the deposit to 100 EUR when you take their own zero-excess cover. You remain liable for damage up to the excess unless you have full coverage.

Should I rent a car at Rimini Airport with full insurance?

Usually yes. Basic cover is included, but in our search the excess at Rimini ranged from about 1,200 to 2,200 EUR on most offers. Full coverage bought online with your booking is the cheapest way to cover it: it works by refund, and the deposit is still blocked. The company’s own cover at the desk costs more but lowers the deposit.

Where are the car rental desks at Rimini Airport?

In the single terminal. Leave the arrivals hall and turn right into the car rental area, where GaldieriRent and Last Minute Rent work. SIXT and Flizzr are also in the terminal. Sicily By Car works by meet and greet: call the number on your voucher when you land and an agent meets you in arrivals.

Which car rental companies are at Rimini Airport?

Five companies we recommend work in the terminal: GaldieriRent (9.2), Last Minute Rent (8.6), SIXT (8.5), Sicily By Car (8.3, meet and greet in arrivals) and Flizzr (8.3). Three more, Keddy, Locauto and Noleggiare, have offices in Rimini city, 7-10 km from the airport.

How do I get from Rimini Airport to the car rental offices in the city?

The quickest way is a taxi, about 15-20 minutes, and for Noleggiare it is the only practical option. Start Romagna bus line 9 stops outside the Departures door and reaches the city centre in about half an hour. In the evening, a faster line 9 shuttle with only three stops runs to Rimini railway station, a few minutes’ walk from Keddy and Locauto. The Metromare rapid bus stops at Miramare Aeroporto, about 1 km from the terminal.

Do car rental companies at Rimini Airport accept Revolut?

No. None of the 8 companies we recommend at the airport and in Rimini city accepts cards from online-only banks such as Revolut, Wise or Monese, and our search found no deals without a card at pick-up. Bring a physical card from a traditional bank in the main driver’s name.

Which car rental at Rimini Airport is open in the afternoon and late in the evening?

SIXT and Flizzr work without a break from 08:00 to 22:00. GaldieriRent and Last Minute Rent close from 14:00 to 16:00 and then work until 23:00, and Sicily By Car also stops in the afternoon and works until about 22:30. In Rimini city, Locauto and Keddy close at 18:30 on weekdays and all day on Sundays, and Noleggiare closes at 19:30 on weekdays.

Can I drive a rental car from Rimini to San Marino?

Yes, San Marino is about 30 minutes away and there are no border checks. None of the rental terms we checked lists San Marino among the countries with a cross-border fee, but check the terms of your offer. The old town is closed to visitors’ cars, so use the car parks below it.

What is the cheapest month to rent a car at Rimini Airport?

March, at about 20 EUR a day on average across all offers, followed by January, February and November. June is the most expensive month, at about 45 EUR a day.

Is it worth renting a car in Rimini city instead of at the airport?

With a debit card, often yes. The three city companies we recommend, Locauto, Noleggiare and Keddy, accept debit cards, and Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation at pick-up. They are 7-10 km from the airport, about 15-20 minutes by taxi, and close at lunchtime and in the early evening.

Where is the best place to book a car at Rimini Airport?

Through Autorentwiz: our search shows the same companies, cars and rental conditions as Discovercars, with our discount applied, so the same car costs less. At Rimini Airport and in Rimini city we recommend 8 companies. You can also get a free consultation by car rental experts on Messenger, and the discount is the same either way.

What should I watch out for when renting a car at Rimini Airport?

GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent and Sicily By Car close from about 14:00 to 16:00, so check the hours if you land in the early afternoon. SIXT blocks about 500-850 EUR on a debit card, more than the 300 EUR on a credit card. None of the eight companies we recommend accepts Revolut. Since January 2026 the camera gates of Rimini’s historic centre issue ZTL fines automatically.

How do you avoid extra charges when renting a car at Rimini Airport?

At Rimini Airport, check the deposit and the fuel rules in the offer conditions before you book, and film the car from all sides at pick-up and at return. The airport companies we recommend block from 200 EUR to about 1,500 EUR, depending on the company and the car class. GaldieriRent and Sicily By Car lower the deposit to 100 EUR when you take their own zero-excess cover, but these packages cost more per day. In Rimini city, Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on your card. If you already have full insurance, you do not need to buy the rental company’s insurance at the desk as well. Before you return the car, fill up at the Eni station on the Via Flaminia, a few hundred metres north of the rental area, and keep the receipt. Return during office hours if you can, so an agent checks the car and signs it off.

We'll definitely be back. Thank you!”
