Car Rental at Brindisi Airport (BDS): No Deposit and Best Options Without a Credit Card

Brindisi Airport (BDS), also called Aeroporto del Salento, is about 6 km north of the centre of Brindisi and the main airport for the Salento peninsula: Lecce, Ostuni, Otranto and the coast of southern Puglia. For one week in November we found 1,011 rental offers here. Nine of the 15 companies we recommend have their desk at the airport, six send a shuttle, and only six accept a debit card. This guide to car rental at Brindisi Airport covers each of the 15 companies we recommend, debit and Revolut cards, deposits, the ferries to Greece, prices by month, Brindisi against Bari, and what to know before you drive into Lecce, Ostuni or Otranto.

Data last verified: October 2026. Written by Simas Krasaitis, founder of Autorentwiz and former head of car rental at ADCRent.

Short on time? The key facts:

  • Desks: 9 of our 15 companies are at the airport, most in the car rental building next to the terminal. GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent, Vivarent, Street Rent a Car, Filorent and Viaggiare pick you up by shuttle
  • Debit cards: only 6 of the 15 accept them: Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Alamo and Enterprise (500 EUR), Thrifty and Dollar (700 EUR) and Keddy (800 EUR)
  • No deposit: Locauto (only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation), with a debit or credit card. With their own zero-excess cover and a credit card, GaldieriRent blocks 100 EUR and Viaggiare 150 EUR
  • Revolut: none of the 15 companies accepts cards from online-only banks
  • Ferry to Greece: only Alamo, Locauto and Filorent allow both the ferry and Greece
  • Opening hours: none of our companies opens before 08:00. Alamo, Enterprise, Locauto, Thrifty, Dollar, Keddy and Filorent work until 23:00, the shuttle companies on Via Egnazia until 20:00

Car rental at Brindisi Airport: the 15 companies we recommend

Brindisi has many small local companies next to the big brands, and some of them score better here than the brands do. To make our list, a company needs a rating of 8.0 or higher from verified renters at this airport and a separate score for its staff here. Of the 27 companies rated at Brindisi, 14 passed and had offers in our search. Europcar, Avis, Hertz and Budget did not. We also added Locauto: it has too few reviews at Brindisi for a rating yet, but renters at Pescara Airport rate it 9.4, and it is one of the companies we recommend most across Italy. Other companies with no rating at this airport yet are not on the list. The card question matters most here: about half of the travellers who ask us about Brindisi have only a debit card, and 9 of our 15 companies want a credit card. Our car rental in Italy page compares Brindisi with the other Italian airports.

Car rental deposits at Brindisi Airport by company

Car rental at Brindisi Airport (BDS): deposits by company, debit card, desk at the airport and ferries
Car rental deposits and conditions at Brindisi Airport, verified October 2026

At Brindisi, Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on a debit or a credit card at pick-up, with no extra cover needed. The lowest deposits among the others come with the companies’ own cover. GaldieriRent drops from 600-1,000 EUR to 100 EUR, and Viaggiare from 700 EUR to 150 EUR, when you take their zero-excess cover, which costs more per day. Both want a credit card. Without that cover, Filorent blocks 490 EUR on most cars, and Alamo and Enterprise block 500 EUR on a debit or a credit card. The highest deposits are at Target Rent (1,500-2,000 EUR), Vivarent (about 1,250 EUR) and Last Minute Rent (1,000 EUR).

Where are the car rental desks at Brindisi Airport?

Brindisi has one terminal, and most rental desks are in the car rental building right next to it. Alamo and Enterprise share an office in that building, opposite the arrivals exit: follow the car rental signs. Locauto, Thrifty, Dollar, Keddy and Autovia are also in the rental area by the terminal. Felirent is about 15-20 m from the terminal, on the left as you walk out, and Target Rent is on the left in the first car park. The six shuttle companies work like this:

  • GaldieriRent and Last Minute Rent are on Via Egnazia, about 2.3 km from the terminal. Call GaldieriRent on the number in your voucher when you land, and its branded shuttle collects you in front of the arrivals exit
  • Vivarent and Street Rent a Car are also on Via Egnazia. Vivarent asks you to call when you land and go to its shuttle meeting point
  • Filorent is on Via San Vito, about 2.3 km away. Call on arrival, and the meeting point is outside arrivals
  • Viaggiare is on Contrada Montenegro, about 600 m away. The meeting point is outside arrivals, by the first lane for taxis and shuttles

Autorentwiz tip: groups of six or seven often ask us for one 7-seater at Brindisi. Seven-seat cars are few here: in our search, Felirent had a Peugeot 5008 from 322 EUR a week, Locauto a Volkswagen Caravelle van from 331 EUR and Enterprise a 9-seat Caravelle from 351 EUR. Two small cars can cost less in total, but you need two drivers, two cards and two deposits. Send us your group size and dates on Messenger, and we will compare both options.

Late arrivals and opening hours

At Brindisi the desks keep the same hours every day of the week, but none of our companies opens before 08:00, so an early morning flight means waiting. Alamo, Enterprise, Locauto, Thrifty, Dollar, Keddy and Filorent work until 23:00 and Target Rent until 22:00. Felirent and Autovia close at 21:00, Viaggiare at 20:30, and GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent, Vivarent and Street Rent a Car at 20:00. Vivarent, Street Rent a Car, Filorent and Autovia hold your car for 2 hours after the booked time, Dollar and Keddy for only 29 minutes, and most others for about an hour. Add your flight number to the booking.

Returning the car: the nearest petrol station

The Q8 station on Via Maddalena is about 1 km south of the terminal, on the road from Brindisi to the airport, and it is listed as open 24 hours. Fill up there, because most rental conditions ask for the same fuel level you started with, and the refuelling charge at the desk is much higher than the pump price.

Can I rent a car at Brindisi Airport with a debit card?

Yes, but the choice is small. Only 6 of the 15 companies we recommend accept a debit card, and all six have their desk at the airport: Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Alamo and Enterprise (500 EUR), Thrifty and Dollar (700 EUR) and Keddy (800 EUR). The other nine, including all six shuttle companies, take credit cards only. Even with a debit card, some big cars need a credit card: at Thrifty that includes the intermediate SUV, at Alamo and Keddy the premium cars. At the desk you need a physical Visa or Mastercard in the main driver’s name, with the card number printed on the front, and Alamo does not take Maestro. Our guide to renting a car in Italy with a debit card explains what the desk checks.

Renting a car at Brindisi Airport with a Revolut card

None of the 15 companies we recommend at Brindisi accepts cards from online-only banks such as Revolut: all of them list these cards as not accepted. If Revolut is the only card you have, send us your dates on Messenger before you book. Our Bari Airport guide covers the options at Bari, about 1 hour 25 minutes away.

Car rental at Brindisi Airport with no deposit

Locauto asks for no deposit at Brindisi, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on a debit or a credit card at pick-up. Among companies that take a deposit, the lowest are GaldieriRent at 100 EUR and Viaggiare at 150 EUR, both only with their own zero-excess cover, which costs more per day, and both with a credit card. With a debit card, the lowest deposit among companies that take one is 500 EUR at Alamo and Enterprise. Our guide to saving money on car rental shows how to weigh the deposit against the price.

Desk insurance or full coverage at Brindisi Airport?

At Brindisi the excess, the part of any damage you pay yourself, was about 1,200-3,050 EUR in our search, and up to about 4,200 EUR at Felirent. Locauto had the lowest, from 1,200 EUR, and Viaggiare one of the highest, 3,000 EUR without its own cover. You can cover it in two ways. Full coverage added online when you book costs less per day, but the desk still blocks the normal deposit, and if something happens you pay the company and claim the money back from the insurer. The company’s own cover, sold at the desk, costs more but removes the excess on the spot and can cut the deposit, as with GaldieriRent (100 EUR) and Viaggiare (150 EUR). If you already bought full coverage, you do not need the desk cover as well. Our pick-up tips show how to film the car and what to check at pick-up.

How much does car rental at Brindisi Airport cost?

Across all offers, car rental at Brindisi Airport costs about 24 EUR a day on average over the year. November is the cheapest month at about 12 EUR a day, about half the yearly average, and April the most expensive at about 34 EUR. May and June are almost as dear. August, at about 26 EUR, costs less than June, July or September here. Most rentals at Brindisi last 5 to 8 days, and 9 in July.

Our November search found these starting prices per day by car class. The cheapest small cars started at about 4 EUR a day, a compact SUV cost about the same as a compact car, and vans with 7 or more seats started at about 45 EUR a day.

Autorentwiz tip: many of our Brindisi customers plan to drop the car at Bari Airport, about 125 km north, and fly home from there. A one-way rental can be cheaper than driving back, but some companies add a fee at the desk. Send us both airports and your dates on Messenger, and we will find the companies that do it without a big surcharge.

Brindisi or Bari: which airport should you rent a car at?

Brindisi and Bari are the two main airports of Puglia, about 125 km and 1 hour 25 minutes apart. For Lecce, Otranto and the rest of Salento, Brindisi is closer: Lecce is about 45 km and 40 minutes away. For Polignano a Mare, Alberobello and the Itria Valley, Bari is closer. Ostuni is about halfway, 40 minutes from Brindisi.

Driving from Brindisi Airport: Lecce, Ostuni and the ferries to Greece

The airport is on the north edge of Brindisi, a few minutes from the SS379 dual carriageway north to Ostuni and Bari and the SS613 south to Lecce. Neither road has tolls, and there are no motorways in Salento. In July and August, plan for slow traffic on the roads to the beaches.

Lecce and Ostuni: the ZTL zones

The old town of Lecce is a restricted traffic zone with cameras at the gates. On weekdays it is closed to cars from 13:00 to 16:30 and from 20:00 to 10:00, and on Sundays and holidays all day; the Porta Napoli gate works 24 hours. Staying inside? Your hotel can register your plate for luggage drop-off only, and it needs to know at least 48 hours ahead. In Ostuni, the historic centre is closed on weekdays from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 07:00, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to midnight. A fine of about 83-335 EUR arrives weeks later through the rental company, plus its admin fee, so park outside the old towns and walk in.

Taking a rental car on the ferry to Greece

From the port of Brindisi, Grimaldi Lines sails to Igoumenitsa in mainland Greece at least once a day, in about 8 hours, and in summer there are ferries to Corfu. Before you book, check two rules in the rental conditions: whether the company allows the car on a ferry, and whether Greece is on its list of countries. Of our 15 companies, only Alamo, Locauto and Filorent allow both, at no extra charge, and Filorent wants written permission. Enterprise and Vivarent allow Greece but not the ferry, and none of our companies allows Albania.

Day trips: Otranto and the trulli of Alberobello

Otranto, on the Adriatic coast south of Lecce, is about 90 km and 1 hour 15 minutes from the airport. Its historic centre is closed to cars all year, so leave the car outside and walk in.

Alberobello, with its white trulli houses, is about 75 km and 1 hour north-west. It has no gated ZTL, but parking in the zones near the trulli is paid from 09:00 to 20:00 or later.

FAQ: car rental at Brindisi Airport

Can I rent a car at Brindisi Airport with just a debit card?

Yes, with six companies: Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Alamo and Enterprise (500 EUR), Thrifty and Dollar (700 EUR) and Keddy (800 EUR), all at the airport. Bring a physical Visa or Mastercard in the main driver’s name. The other nine companies we recommend, including all the shuttle companies, take credit cards only.

Can I rent a car at Brindisi Airport without a credit card?

Yes, with a debit card at Locauto, Alamo, Enterprise, Thrifty, Dollar or Keddy. The main driver still needs a physical card from a traditional bank, because the deposit is blocked on it at pick-up.

Can I rent a car at Brindisi Airport with no deposit?

Yes, with Locauto. It asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on a debit or a credit card at pick-up. Among companies that take a deposit, the lowest are GaldieriRent at 100 EUR and Viaggiare at 150 EUR with their own zero-excess cover and a credit card. With a debit card, the lowest is 500 EUR at Alamo and Enterprise.

Should I rent a car at Brindisi Airport with full insurance?

It is usually worth it, because the excess at Brindisi was about 1,200-3,050 EUR in our search, and up to about 4,200 EUR with some companies. Full coverage added to the online booking is the cheaper option, but the normal deposit stays and you claim any damage back from the insurer. The company’s cover at the desk costs more, removes the excess at once and can lower the deposit.

Where are the car rental desks at Brindisi Airport?

Most are in the car rental building next to the terminal, opposite the arrivals exit: Alamo, Enterprise, Locauto, Thrifty, Dollar, Keddy and Autovia. Felirent is 15-20 m from the terminal and Target Rent is in the first car park. GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent, Vivarent, Street Rent a Car, Filorent and Viaggiare pick you up by shuttle.

Which car rental companies are at Brindisi Airport?

We found 27 companies with ratings at Brindisi. We recommend 15: Alamo, Vivarent, Target Rent, GaldieriRent, Last Minute Rent, Enterprise, Thrifty, Felirent, Street Rent a Car, Filorent, Keddy, Viaggiare, Autovia and Dollar, all rated 8.0 or higher, and Locauto, which has no rating at Brindisi yet.

Do car rental companies at Brindisi Airport accept Revolut?

No. The 15 companies we recommend at Brindisi list cards from online-only banks, such as Revolut, as not accepted. You need a card from a traditional bank in the main driver’s name.

Can I take a rental car from Brindisi to Greece on the ferry?

Only with some companies. Of the 15 we recommend, Alamo, Locauto and Filorent allow both the ferry and Greece at no extra charge, and Filorent wants written permission. Enterprise and Vivarent allow Greece but not the ferry. Check both rules in your rental conditions before you book.

Which car rental at Brindisi Airport is open late in the evening?

Alamo, Enterprise, Locauto, Thrifty, Dollar, Keddy and Filorent work until 23:00 every day, and Target Rent until 22:00. The shuttle companies on Via Egnazia close at 20:00. None of our companies opens before 08:00.

Is it better to rent a car at Brindisi or Bari?

For Lecce, Otranto and Salento, Brindisi is closer, and it has more companies that take debit cards. For Polignano a Mare and Alberobello, Bari is closer. In our data Brindisi was a little cheaper in most months.

Can I drive a rental car into the centre of Lecce?

Only outside the ZTL hours. The old town is closed to cars on weekdays from 13:00 to 16:30 and from 20:00 to 10:00, and all day on Sundays and holidays, with fines of about 83-335 EUR. Park outside the old town and walk in.

What is the cheapest month to rent a car at Brindisi Airport?

November, at about 12 EUR a day on average across all offers, about half the yearly average of about 24 EUR. January and February are almost as cheap. April is the most expensive month, at about 34 EUR a day.

Can I return a rental car from Brindisi at Bari Airport?

Yes, one-way rentals between Brindisi and Bari are common, and the drive is about 125 km. Some companies add a one-way fee at the desk, so check the rental conditions or ask us to compare the companies for your dates.

Where is the best place to book a car at Brindisi Airport?

Through Autorentwiz: our search shows the same companies, cars and rental conditions as Discovercars, with our discount applied, so the same car costs less. At Brindisi Airport we recommend 15 companies. You can also get a free consultation by car rental experts on Messenger, and the discount is the same either way.

Is it better to rent a car at Brindisi Airport or in the city?

For most travellers who land at Brindisi, the airport is the easier choice: nine of the 15 companies we recommend have their desk at the airport, most in the car rental building next to the terminal. One-way rentals to Bari Airport, about 125 km away, are common, and some companies add a desk fee. Lecce is about 40 minutes away, and its old town is a ZTL with fines of about 83 to 335 EUR.

What should I watch out for when renting a car at Brindisi Airport?

Only six of the 15 companies accept a debit card, and the six shuttle companies take credit cards only. No desk opens before 08:00, and the shuttle companies on Via Egnazia close at 20:00. Dollar and Keddy hold your car for only 29 minutes after the booked time. For the ferry to Greece, only Alamo, Locauto and Filorent allow both the ferry and Greece.

How do you avoid extra charges when renting a car at Brindisi Airport?

At Brindisi Airport, check the deposit and the fuel rules in the offer conditions before you book, and film the car from all sides at pick-up and at return. Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on your card. The other companies we recommend block about 490 to 2,000 EUR on their standard terms. GaldieriRent and Viaggiare lower the deposit to 100 EUR and 150 EUR with their own zero-excess cover, but that cover costs more per day. If you already have full insurance, you do not need to buy the rental company’s insurance at the desk as well. Most rental conditions ask for the same fuel level you started with, and the refuelling charge at the desk is much higher than the pump price. Fill up at the Q8 station on Via Maddalena, which is listed as open 24 hours and is about 1 km south of the terminal.

This time we rented a car in Italy: they found and offered the right option very quickly, and the whole process was smooth, clear and fast. Great communication, easy booking and professional service. We'll definitely be back. Thank you!”
