Car Rental at Pescara Airport (PSR): No Deposit, Debit Card and Full Insurance Options

Pescara Airport (PSR), also called Abruzzo Airport, is a one-terminal airport 4 km from the centre of Pescara, and the only passenger airport in Abruzzo. For one week in November we found 425 rental offers from 21 companies here. Thirteen of the 14 companies we recommend have their desk in the arrivals hall, 12 of the 14 accept a debit card, and Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation at pick-up. This guide to car rental at Pescara Airport covers each of the 14 companies rated 8.0 or higher, debit and Revolut cards, deposits, desk hours, prices by month, Pescara against Rome Ciampino, and what to know before you drive into Pescara, along the Costa dei Trabocchi or up to the Gran Sasso.

Data last verified: October 2026. Written by Simas Krasaitis, founder of Autorentwiz and former head of car rental at ADCRent.

Car rental at Pescara Airport: the 14 companies we recommend

Pescara has more strong companies than most small Italian airports. To make our list, a company needs a rating of 8.0 or higher from verified renters at this airport and a separate score for its staff here. That rule removed 7 of the 21 companies in our search, including Europcar, Avis and Budget, which score below 8.0 at Pescara. Only two of the 14 that passed ask for a credit card, which matters here: about half of the travellers who ask us about Pescara have only a debit card, and 1 in 5 more have both. Our car rental in Italy page compares Pescara with the other Italian airports.

Locauto wins on deposit and on rating: it asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on a debit or a credit card at pick-up, and it was also among the cheapest companies in our search, from 97 EUR for a week in a small car. Only its vans and premium cars need a credit card. Maggiore blocks 200 EUR on small and compact cars and takes debit cards, and Sicily By Car blocks 200 EUR on small cars but wants a credit card. Noleggiare drops from 600 EUR to 190-370 EUR when you take its own zero-excess cover. The highest deposits are at SIXT (about 630-1,130 EUR), Flizzr (about 620-840 EUR) and Keddy (800 EUR).

Where are the car rental desks at Pescara Airport?

Pescara has one small terminal, and the rental desks are in the arrivals area, a few steps from baggage claim. Locauto says its desk is immediately on the left as you come out of the arrivals door, with its cars parked about 150 m from the terminal. Alamo, Enterprise and National share a desk in the rental area opposite the arrivals gate, and SIXT is in the main arrivals hall. The others ask you to follow the car rental signs. Noleggiare is the only one of our companies outside: its office is on Via Amendola, about 500 m on foot. Leave the terminal, cross the car park in front and follow the pedestrian crossing. There is no shuttle.

Autorentwiz tip: about 1 in 3 of the Pescara rentals our customers ask for are 3 days or shorter. On a short trip the deposit is the same as for a fortnight, but full coverage costs little in total, so it is usually worth taking. With Locauto you pay no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation, and can still add full coverage when you book.

Late arrivals and opening hours

Pescara desk hours follow the flight schedule, so they change from day to day and several desks close for a few hours in the afternoon. On a Tuesday in November, Alamo, Enterprise and National were closed between 15:30 and 18:00 and open again until 23:30, and Locauto closed for lunch between 12:30 and 14:00 and for the day at 19:00. Maggiore, Noleggiare and Drivalia close at 19:00, and Maggiore does not open at weekends in November. For late flights, Sicily By Car works until 23:59 every day and SIXT and Flizzr until 22:00. Sicily By Car and Noleggiare hold your car for 2 hours after the booked time, Dollar and Keddy for only 29 minutes, and most others for about an hour. Add your flight number to the booking and check the hours in your voucher for your exact day.

Returning the car: the nearest petrol station

The Eni station at Via Tiburtina Valeria 362 is about 1.2 km from the terminal towards the centre of Pescara, on the road you take back to the airport from the city, and it is listed as open 24 hours. Fill up there, because most rental conditions ask for the same fuel level you started with, and the refuelling charge at the desk is much higher than the pump price.

Can I rent a car at Pescara Airport with a debit card?

Yes, and Pescara is one of the easiest Italian airports for it. Twelve of the 14 companies we recommend accept a debit card: Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Maggiore (200 EUR on small cars, about 300-340 EUR on others), Alamo, Enterprise and National (500 EUR), Noleggiare (600 EUR), Dollar, Hertz and Thrifty (700 EUR), Keddy (800 EUR), and SIXT and Flizzr with higher deposits. Only Sicily By Car and Drivalia take credit cards only. Some companies want a credit card for their biggest cars: at Dollar, Hertz and Thrifty that includes the intermediate SUV, and at Locauto the vans and premium cars, and at Alamo the premium cars. At the desk you need a physical Visa or Mastercard in the main driver’s name, with the card number printed on the front, and Locauto does not take Maestro. Our guide to renting a car in Italy with a debit card explains what the desk checks.

Renting a car at Pescara Airport with a Revolut card

None of the 14 companies we recommend at Pescara accepts cards from online-only banks such as Revolut: all of them list these cards as not accepted. Our search also found no deals at Pescara where no card is needed at pick-up, out of 422 offers we checked. If Revolut is the only card you have, none of our recommended companies at Pescara will accept it. Send us your dates on Messenger before you book, and we will tell you what works with the cards you have.

Car rental at Pescara Airport with no deposit

At Pescara, Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on a debit or a credit card at its desk by the arrivals door. Among companies that take a deposit, the lowest are Noleggiare at 190-370 EUR with its own zero-excess cover, which costs more per day, and Maggiore and Sicily By Car at 200 EUR on small cars. Our guide to saving money on car rental shows how to weigh the deposit against the price.

Desk insurance or full coverage at Pescara Airport?

At Pescara the excess, the part of any damage you pay yourself, was about 1,200-2,800 EUR in our search, and up to about 3,660 EUR on the bigger Maggiore cars. Locauto had the lowest, from 1,200 EUR. You can cover it in two ways. Full coverage added online when you book costs less per day, but the desk still blocks the normal deposit, and if something happens you pay the company and claim the money back from the insurer. The company’s own cover, sold at the desk, costs more but removes the excess on the spot and can cut the deposit, as with Noleggiare (190-370 EUR). If you already bought full coverage, you do not need the desk cover as well. Our pick-up tips show how to film the car and what to check at pick-up.

How much does car rental at Pescara Airport cost?

Across all offers, car rental at Pescara Airport costs about 31 EUR a day on average over the year. November is the cheapest month at about 16 EUR a day, about half the yearly average, and July the most expensive at about 39 EUR. September is dearer than August here, and January and February are almost as cheap as November. Most rentals at Pescara last about 6 days, and 8 days in July and August.

Car rental prices at Pescara Airport by car type

Our November search found these starting prices per day by car class. An SUV started at about the same price as a large car, and a premium car cost only a little more, so it is worth comparing classes before you book. Station wagons started at about 24 EUR a day, and vans at about 62 EUR.

Autorentwiz tip: about 1 in 4 of our Pescara customers need an automatic. Most of the cheapest cars here are manuals, and in our search Locauto had an automatic Volkswagen Polo from 133 EUR for a week. If you cannot drive a manual, filter for automatics before you compare prices, or message us on Messenger and we will do it for your dates.

Pescara or Rome Ciampino: which airport should you rent a car at?

Many travellers to Abruzzo compare flights to Pescara with flights to Rome. If you land in Rome and drive, Pescara is about 210 km and roughly 2 hours 15 minutes away on the A24 and A25 motorways, with a toll of about 20 EUR each way. Rental at Rome Ciampino costs the same as Pescara in November and about 6 EUR a day less in July, so on a one-week summer trip the saving is about the cost of the tolls, before fuel and four or five hours of driving.

The other difference is the walk. At Ciampino none of the companies has a desk in the terminal, and at Pescara 13 of our 14 are in the arrivals hall. If you are flying into Rome anyway, our guide to car rental at Rome Ciampino Airport covers the companies there.

Driving from Pescara Airport: the city, the coast and the mountains

The airport is on Via Tiburtina Valeria, on the south-west edge of Pescara, next to the fast road that links Pescara and Chieti. You can join the A14 motorway along the Adriatic coast and the A25 towards Rome a few minutes away. Italian motorways have toll booths: take a ticket when you join and pay by card or cash when you leave, and keep out of the yellow Telepass lanes. Bari is about 300 km south on the A14, roughly 3 hours, and our Bari Airport guide covers renting there.

Pescara: the ZTL and where to park

Pescara has several restricted traffic zones with cameras. The main shopping streets around Corso Umberto I, Via Mazzini and Via Roma are closed to cars 24 hours a day, and Pescara Vecchia, the old town around Corso Manthonè and Via delle Caserme, from 04:00 to 20:00. A fine of about 83-332 EUR arrives weeks later through the rental company, plus its admin fee. Street parking in the centre is paid on the blue lines, and the large car parks on the former railway land next to Pescara Centrale station are the cheapest option for a day in town. Staying inside a ZTL? Ask your hotel how it registers guests’ cars before you drive in.

Day trips: the Costa dei Trabocchi and the Gran Sasso

South of Pescara, the Costa dei Trabocchi runs from Ortona to Vasto, lined with trabocchi, old wooden fishing platforms on stilts, several of which are now restaurants. San Vito Chietino is about 35 km and 35 minutes from the airport, and Vasto about 75 km and 50 minutes on the A14.

Inland, Rocca Calascio, a ruined castle at 1,460 m, is about 1 hour 20 minutes from the airport, and the Campo Imperatore plateau below the Gran Sasso about 1 hour 45 minutes. From 15 November to 15 April, state roads in Abruzzo require winter tyres or snow chains on board, so ask for them when you book a winter rental, and check whether the road across Campo Imperatore is open, because heavy snow often closes it in winter.

FAQ: car rental at Pescara Airport

Can I rent a car at Pescara Airport with just a debit card?

Yes. Twelve of the 14 companies we recommend accept debit cards, including Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Maggiore (200 EUR on small cars), Alamo, Enterprise and National (500 EUR), Noleggiare (600 EUR) and Dollar, Hertz and Thrifty (700 EUR). Bring a physical Visa or Mastercard in the main driver’s name. Sicily By Car and Drivalia take credit cards only.

Can I rent a car at Pescara Airport without a credit card?

Yes. Most companies at Pescara take a debit card instead of a credit card, and Locauto takes no deposit: its symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation at pick-up works with either. Our search found no Pescara deals without any card at pick-up, so the main driver still needs a physical debit or credit card.

Can I rent a car at Pescara Airport with no deposit?

Yes, with Locauto. It asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on a debit or credit card at its desk by the arrivals door. Among companies that take a deposit, the lowest are Noleggiare at 190-370 EUR with its own zero-excess cover, and Maggiore and Sicily By Car at 200 EUR on small cars.

Should I rent a car at Pescara Airport with full insurance?

It is usually worth it, because the excess at Pescara was about 1,200-2,800 EUR in our search, and up to about 3,660 EUR on bigger cars. Full coverage added to the online booking is the cheaper option, but the normal deposit stays and you claim any damage back from the insurer. The company’s cover at the desk costs more, removes the excess at once and can lower the deposit.

Where are the car rental desks at Pescara Airport?

In the arrivals area of the single terminal, a few steps from baggage claim. Locauto is immediately on the left as you leave the arrivals door, and Alamo, Enterprise and National are opposite the arrivals gate. Noleggiare is the only one of our companies outside, about 500 m on foot across the car park on Via Amendola.

Which car rental companies are at Pescara Airport?

We found 21 companies in our search. The 14 we recommend, all rated 8.0 or higher, are Locauto, Sicily By Car, Alamo, Noleggiare, SIXT, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, Maggiore, Flizzr, National, Thrifty, Keddy and Drivalia.

Do car rental companies at Pescara Airport accept Revolut?

No. The 14 companies we recommend at Pescara list cards from online-only banks, such as Revolut, as not accepted, and our search found no deals without a card at pick-up. You need a card from a traditional bank in the main driver’s name.

Which car rental at Pescara Airport is open late in the evening?

Sicily By Car works until 23:59 every day, and SIXT and Flizzr until 22:00. On many days Alamo, Enterprise and National are open until 23:30 and Dollar, Hertz and Thrifty until 22:30, but these desks follow the flight schedule, so check the hours for your day in your voucher.

Is it cheaper to rent a car in Rome and drive to Pescara?

Not usually. Rome Ciampino costs about the same per day as Pescara in November and about 6 EUR a day less in July, but the drive is about 2 hours 15 minutes each way with a toll of about 20 EUR. On a one-week trip the tolls take most of the saving.

Can I drive a rental car into the centre of Pescara?

Only outside the ZTL zones. The shopping streets around Corso Umberto I are closed to cars 24 hours a day and Pescara Vecchia from 04:00 to 20:00, with fines of about 83-332 EUR. Park in a blue-line space or in the car parks by Pescara Centrale station and walk in.

Can I take a rental car from Pescara on a ferry?

With some companies. Locauto, Alamo, Maggiore, Flizzr, National and Drivalia allow ferries at no extra charge, and Sicily By Car does too with written permission. Noleggiare (42 EUR), SIXT (50 EUR) and Thrifty charge a fee and want written permission, and Thrifty also wants a day’s notice. Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and Keddy do not allow ferries.

What is the cheapest month to rent a car at Pescara Airport?

November, at about 16 EUR a day on average across all offers, about half the yearly average of about 31 EUR. January and February are almost as cheap. July is the most expensive month, at about 39 EUR a day.

Do I need winter tyres to drive from Pescara Airport to the Gran Sasso?

From 15 November to 15 April, state roads in Abruzzo require winter tyres or snow chains on board. Ask for winter tyres or chains when you book a winter rental, and check whether the Campo Imperatore road is open before you go.

Where is the best place to book a car at Pescara Airport?

Through Autorentwiz: our search shows the same companies, cars and rental conditions as Discovercars, with our discount applied, so the same car costs less. At Pescara Airport we recommend 14 companies. You can also get a free consultation by car rental experts on Messenger, and the discount is the same either way.

Is it better to rent a car at Pescara Airport or in the city?

For most travellers who land at Pescara, the airport is the easier choice: 13 of the 14 companies we recommend have their desk in the arrivals hall. The airport is 4 km from the centre of Pescara. Corso Umberto I, Via Mazzini and Via Roma are a ZTL 24 hours a day. The cheapest parking is by Pescara Centrale station.

What should I watch out for when renting a car at Pescara Airport?

Desk hours follow the flight schedule, and Alamo, Enterprise and National close from 15:30 to 18:00. Dollar and Keddy hold your car for only 29 minutes after the booked time. None of the 14 companies we recommend accepts Revolut. From 15 November to 15 April, Abruzzo state roads require winter tyres or snow chains on board.

How do you avoid extra charges when renting a car at Pescara Airport?

At Pescara Airport, check the deposit and the fuel rules in the offer conditions before you book, and film the car from all sides at pick-up and at return. Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on your card. The other companies we recommend block 200 to about 1,130 EUR. If you already have full insurance, you do not need to buy the rental company’s insurance at the desk as well. Most rental conditions ask for the same fuel level you started with, and the refuelling charge at the desk is much higher than the pump price. Fill up at the Eni station at Via Tiburtina Valeria 362, which is listed as open 24 hours and is about 1.2 km from the terminal towards the centre of Pescara. Photograph the fuel gauge when you hand the car back.
