Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is the main airport of Venice, on the mainland about 13 km by road from Piazzale Roma, where cars stop at the edge of the historic city. For one week in November we found 912 rental offers from 28 companies here. Nine of the 13 companies we recommend have their desk at the airport, on level 3 of the P1 car park, 11 of the 13 accept a debit card, and the lowest deposit, at Dolomiti Rent a Car, is 0 EUR. This guide to car rental at Venice Marco Polo Airport covers each of the 13 companies we recommend, debit and Revolut cards, deposits, prices by month, Marco Polo against Treviso Airport, and what to know before you drive to Venice, Verona or the Dolomites.
Data last verified: October 2026. Written by Simas Krasaitis, founder of Autorentwiz and former head of car rental at ADCRent.
Short on time? The key facts:
- Marco Polo is not Treviso: Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) and Treviso Airport (TSF) are two different airports, about 24 minutes apart by car. Check the airport code on your ticket before you book the car
- Desks: the rental desks are on level 3 of the P1 car park, a covered walk from arrivals, and 9 of our 13 companies are there. Target Rent, GaldieriRent and Record go pick you up by shuttle, and Dolomiti Rent a Car sends you a meeting point on WhatsApp
- Debit cards: 11 of the 13 companies accept them. Only Target Rent and GaldieriRent want a credit card
- No deposit: Dolomiti Rent a Car, 0 EUR, and Locauto (only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation), both with a debit or a credit card
- Revolut: none of the 13 companies accepts cards from online-only banks, and we found no deals without a card at pick-up
- Opening hours: none of our companies opens before 08:00. Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, SIXT and Flizzr work until 23:59, and Alamo, Enterprise, National and Locauto until 23:00
- Prices: November is the cheapest month (about 15 EUR a day on average), July the most expensive (about 43 EUR)

Car rental at Venice Marco Polo Airport: the 13 companies we recommend
Marco Polo has many companies, and a brand can score very differently here than at other airports. To make our list, a company needs a rating of 8.0 or higher from verified renters at this airport and a score of 8.0 or higher for its staff here. Of the 35 companies rated at Marco Polo, 14 passed, and 13 of them had offers in our search. Europcar, Avis, Budget, Maggiore, Sicily By Car and Noleggiare did not pass. Flizzr and National passed with very few ratings, 1 and 3, so their scores say less than the others. Most travellers who ask us about Marco Polo have a debit card, and 11 of our 13 companies accept one. Our car rental in Italy page compares Marco Polo with the other Italian airports.

Car rental deposits at Venice Marco Polo Airport by company

The lowest deposit at Marco Polo is at Dolomiti Rent a Car: 0 EUR on every offer in our search, with a debit or a credit card. Locauto also asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on a debit or a credit card at pick-up, at its desk in the P1 car park. Two companies cut the deposit with their own cover, which costs more per day. Record go drops from 900-1,200 EUR to 0 EUR, and GaldieriRent from 600 EUR to 100 EUR, with a credit card only. SIXT showed a deposit from 300 EUR on its small cars, and Alamo, Enterprise and National block 500 EUR. The highest deposits are at Target Rent (850-1,450 EUR) and at Record go without its cover (900-1,200 EUR). Dollar blocks 700 EUR and adds a separate fuel deposit at pick-up.
Where are the car rental desks at Venice Marco Polo Airport?
Marco Polo has one terminal, and the rental desks are not in it. According to Venice Airport’s car rental page, they are on the third level, called the Terrace, of the P1 multi-storey car park. Leave the arrivals area on the ground floor, take the covered shelter on your left and follow the P1 signs. Locauto describes the walk as about 300 m along a covered walkway, then one of two lifts to the third floor. You need to go to the desk even if you booked online. Alamo, Enterprise and National give the same directions, and Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, SIXT and Flizzr list the same car rental centre address on Viale Galileo Galilei. The other four companies work like this:
- Target Rent is on Via Orlanda. Leave arrivals by door 3, cross the road and turn right to the shuttle area in car park P5, about 300 m away. The PARK GOLD shuttle waits inside P5
- GaldieriRent is on Via Triestina. Leave arrivals by door 4 on the right, follow the P5 signs through the white tunnel to the meeting point, about 50 m, and call the number in your voucher for the FLY PARK/GALDIERI shuttle
- Record go works from the ParkinGO car park on Via Orlanda. Leave by Gate 1, walk past the taxis and the bus station to the short-term car park and look for the ParkinGO sign. The ParkinGO/Rentsmart24 shuttle runs every 10 minutes
- Dolomiti Rent a Car has no desk at the airport. Send your flight number and arrival time on WhatsApp to the number in your voucher, and a representative gives you the meeting point. Its base is at a petrol station on Via Martiri della Libertà, about 6-7 km away
Autorentwiz tip: many customers who ask us about “Venice” actually land at Treviso, so check the airport code on your ticket. VCE is Venice Marco Polo, and TSF is Treviso, often written as “Venice Treviso”. The two airports are about 24 minutes apart by car, so a car booked at the wrong one is not where you land. If your ticket says TSF, our Treviso Airport guide covers the companies there.
Late arrivals and opening hours
At Marco Polo most desks keep the same hours every day, but none of our companies opens before 08:00, so an early morning flight means waiting. Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, SIXT and Flizzr work until 23:59, and Alamo, Enterprise, National and Locauto until 23:00. Record go closes at 22:00, GaldieriRent at 20:00 and Target Rent at 19:00. Dolomiti Rent a Car works 08:00-18:30 on weekdays and only until 11:59 at weekends. Record go holds your car for 6 hours after the booked time, Dollar for only 29 minutes, and most others for about an hour. Add your flight number to the booking. If you fly home early in the morning, check in your offer how the return works before you book.
Returning the car: the nearest petrol station
The Tamoil station on Viale Galileo Galilei, the airport road, is about 900 m west of the terminal, and Google Maps listed it as open 24 hours when we checked in October 2026. The IP station on Via Orlanda, about 4 km south-west towards Mestre, was also listed there as open 24 hours, and the Esso on Via Orlanda in Tessera as temporarily closed. Fill up before you return, because most rental conditions ask for the same fuel level you started with, and the refuelling charge at the desk is much higher than the pump price.

Can I rent a car at Venice Marco Polo Airport with a debit card?
Yes. 11 of the 13 companies we recommend accept a debit card: Dolomiti Rent a Car (0 EUR deposit), Locauto (no deposit, only a 0,01 EUR card authorisation), Flizzr (about 454-463 EUR on small cars), Alamo, Enterprise and National (500 EUR), Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar (700 EUR), Record go (900-1,200 EUR) and SIXT. SIXT accepted debit cards on the Peugeot 5008 offer we could check, but its small-car offers did not show the card rules, so check them in your offer. Target Rent and GaldieriRent take credit cards only.
Even with a debit card, some big cars need a credit card: the Audi A5 at Alamo and the Audi A8 at Hertz. At the desk you need a physical Visa or Mastercard in the main driver’s name, with the card number printed on the front. Alamo, Locauto, Flizzr, Dollar and Hertz do not take Maestro, and Dolomiti Rent a Car takes Visa and Mastercard only. Our guide to renting a car in Italy with a debit card explains what the desk checks.
Renting a car at Venice Marco Polo Airport with a Revolut card
None of the 13 companies we recommend at Marco Polo accepts cards from online-only banks such as Revolut: all of them, Dolomiti Rent a Car included, list these cards as not accepted in the offers we checked. Our search also found no deals at Marco Polo where no card is needed at pick-up. If Revolut is the only card you have, you need a card from a traditional bank in the main driver’s name to rent here.
Car rental at Venice Marco Polo Airport with no deposit
Dolomiti Rent a Car blocks no deposit at all: every one of its 10 offers in our search had a 0 EUR deposit, with a debit or a credit card. It has no desk at the airport and works 08:00-18:30 on weekdays and 08:00-11:59 at weekends, so it suits daytime arrivals. Locauto also asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on a debit or a credit card at pick-up, at its desk in the P1 car park, open until 23:00. In our search, the cheapest car with no deposit was a Toyota Aygo at Locauto, about 102 EUR for the week. Record go also blocks 0 EUR when you take its own full cover, but the price rises: its Hyundai i10 cost about 193 EUR a week with that cover, against about 57 EUR without it. Our guide to saving money on car rental shows how to weigh the deposit against the price.
Desk insurance or full coverage at Venice Marco Polo Airport?
At Marco Polo the excess, the part of any damage you pay yourself, was about 1,200-2,400 EUR on most cars in our search, and up to 4,000 EUR on the Audi A8 at Hertz. Locauto and Dolomiti Rent a Car had the lowest, from 1,200 EUR, and SIXT one of the highest, 2,000-2,400 EUR. You can cover it in two ways. Full coverage added online when you book costs less per day, but the desk still blocks the normal deposit, and if something happens you pay the company and claim the money back from the insurer.
The company’s own cover costs more but removes the excess on the spot and can cut the deposit: in our search, Record go offers with its full cover had a 0 EUR deposit, and GaldieriRent offers with its cover 100 EUR. If you already bought full coverage, you do not need the desk cover as well. Our pick-up tips show how to film the car and what to check at pick-up.
Driver age and driving licence at Venice Marco Polo Airport
These rules come from the rental conditions of the offers we checked at Marco Polo in October 2026, for the 13 companies we recommend. The minimum age often goes up with the car class, so check the conditions of your own offer before you book. Send us the driver’s age on Messenger, and we check which offers allow it.
- Minimum age: 18 at Flizzr, and 18 in SIXT‘s conditions, on small cars. 19 at Dolomiti Rent a Car, GaldieriRent, Target Rent and Record go, and at Alamo, Enterprise, Locauto and National on the Toyota Aygo only. 21 at Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty
- Bigger cars need an older driver: at Alamo, Enterprise, Locauto and National the minimum is 21 from the Volkswagen Polo or Opel Corsa up, 25 for larger SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, and 27 for the Audi A5. Hertz asks for 25 on the Audi Q3 and A5, Target Rent 21 from the Volkswagen Golf up and 25 for the Fiat Ducato, Flizzr 21 for the Cupra Formentor, Peugeot 3008 and 5008 and Volkswagen Caravelle, and SIXT‘s conditions 21 for most BMW models and the Peugeot 5008 and 25 for the BMW i7. Dolomiti Rent a Car, GaldieriRent, Dollar and Thrifty keep the same minimum on every class we checked
- Young and senior driver fees: the conditions we checked for all 13 companies say a young driver fee applies under 25. Only Record go showed an amount: its “Younger driver fee” was 76.65 EUR for our 7-day rental, payable at pick-up. The other conditions do not state the amount, and our search was for a driver aged 30-65, so the prices in this guide do not include it. Dolomiti Rent a Car and Target Rent charge a senior fee over 75 and GaldieriRent over 76, and Dolomiti Rent a Car rents only up to 82
- Licence held: at least 1 year for small cars at most companies. Alamo, Enterprise and National ask for 3 years on every car, and Locauto 3 years from the Opel Corsa up. Some bigger cars need longer: 3 years at Target Rent, 2 years at Flizzr, 2-3 years in SIXT‘s conditions, and 4 years for the Skoda Kodiaq and Ford Tourneo Custom at GaldieriRent
- EU or UK licence: Your Europe says a licence issued in an EU country can be used anywhere in the EU, so you need no International Driving Permit (IDP) in Italy. With a UK photocard licence, gov.uk says you need no IDP in Italy, but Target Rent and Record go still ask for one with a UK licence, and Locauto and SIXT‘s conditions from drivers who live in the UK. Dollar also asks for a DVLA check code with a UK licence
- Licence from outside the EU and the UK: Italian law (Codice della Strada, Art. 135) asks visitors with a licence from outside the EU and EEA for an IDP or an official Italian translation, so bring an IDP. Hertz and Thrifty also accept licences from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and some other countries without one, but we still advise an IDP because of the law. Alamo and SIXT‘s conditions ask for an IDP with any licence not printed in the Roman alphabet. The IDP counts only together with your licence and as a physical document, not a digital one

Venice Marco Polo or Treviso: which airport should you rent a car at?
Venice has two airports that travellers book as “Venice”: Marco Polo (VCE) and Treviso (TSF). They are about 26-30 km and 24-27 minutes apart by road. For Venice itself, Marco Polo is closer: Piazzale Roma, where cars stop, is 13 km and about 19 minutes away, against about 37-40 minutes from Treviso. For the city of Treviso, Treviso Airport is closer. For Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites, both airports are about 2 hours away.

If you only have a debit card or want no deposit, Marco Polo gives you more choice, and its prices were a little lower in November and July. Several brands, such as Locauto, SIXT, Sicily By Car and Noleggiare, were rated higher by verified renters at Treviso, so compare the rating at the airport you fly into, not the brand. Our Treviso Airport guide covers the companies there.
Driving from Venice Marco Polo Airport: Venice, Verona and the Dolomites
From the airport, the SS14 (Via Triestina) runs to Mestre and the SR11 continues to Piazzale Roma, and neither road has tolls. The A4 motorway to Padua, Verona, Lake Garda and Trieste and the A27 to Treviso and Cortina d’Ampezzo have tolls.
Venice by car: the car-free centre and where to park
Cars cannot enter the historic centre of Venice. The road ends at Piazzale Roma, 13 km and about 19 minutes from the airport, and at Tronchetto nearby. The city garage at Piazzale Roma, the Autorimessa Comunale, costs 35 EUR for 24 hours when you book online on the official Venezia Unica site, and it takes cars up to 2.20 m high. Tronchetto costs about 25-28 EUR a day. The cheapest plan is to park in Mestre, for example at the SABA car park by Mestre station for about 15-18 EUR a day, and take the train, about 10 minutes to Venice.
If you plan to pick up a car in “Venice”, the nearest pick-up points are on the mainland, such as Mestre station, or at the airport. In 2026, day visitors paid an access fee of 5 EUR, or 10 EUR if paid late, on set days, and it no longer applies from 27 July 2026. The official site has no 2027 dates yet, so check the official Venice Access Fee site before your trip.

Mestre: the ZTL in the centre
The centre of Mestre is a restricted traffic zone, or ZTL, active every day, 24 hours a day. Gates mark the zone, and only cars with an authorisation from the Venice ZTL office may enter. Park outside the zone and walk in.
Day trips: Verona, Lake Garda, the Dolomites and Slovenia
Padua is 46 km and about 45 minutes from the airport on the A4. Verona is 126 km and about 1 hour 25 minutes away on the same motorway. If Verona or Lake Garda is the main part of your trip, our Verona Airport guide compares Verona Airport with Marco Polo.

Sirmione on Lake Garda is 155 km and about 1 hour 35 minutes away on the A4.

Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites is 147 km and about 2 hours away by the A27 and the SS51. On Veneto state roads at risk of snow, cars had to have winter tyres or carry snow chains from 15 November to 15 April in winter 2025-26, so ask for winter tyres when you book a winter rental. Lake Bled in Slovenia is 282 km and about 2 hours 55 minutes away. Check the Slovenian motorway vignette rules before you cross the border, and check that your company allows Slovenia. Locauto, Alamo, Enterprise and National allow it for free, Dolomiti Rent a Car for free with written permission, and Hertz, GaldieriRent, Flizzr and Target Rent for a fee of 30-70 EUR. SIXT, Dollar, Thrifty and Record go do not allow it. For Trieste, Slovenia or Istria, Trieste Airport is closer, and our Trieste Airport guide compares it with Marco Polo.
What our customers say
We rented a car online from another company. However, when we got there, we had a conflict with the rental company about the insurance terms. Autorentwiz responded to our messages late in the evening, reviewed the photos of the contract we sent, and was happy to give us useful advice on how to act in a specific situation.
Jurgita, Google review (translated)
We spent a couple of days looking for the best option. After contacting Autorentwiz, within 20 minutes they offered an option with no deposit and no credit card needed, at the best price. At the rental desk I got a new car. Only the best reviews.
Arnas, Facebook review (translated)
It was our first time renting the car in Italy, Bergamo airport. Simas helped us to choose the car and answered all the questions we had. Was very easy to rent the car and was no issue with it. Thanks Simas. Would highly recommend and would rent again.

Yes, with a debit card at 11 of our 13 companies, including Dolomiti Rent a Car with a 0 EUR deposit and Locauto with no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation. Our search found no deals without any card at pick-up, so the main driver still needs a physical card from a traditional bank.
Yes. Dolomiti Rent a Car had a 0 EUR deposit on every offer in our search, with a debit or a credit card, but it works only 08:00-18:30 on weekdays and until 11:59 at weekends. Locauto also asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR card authorisation at its desk in the P1 car park, open until 23:00. Record go also blocks 0 EUR on offers with its own full cover, which cost more.
It is usually worth it, because the excess at Marco Polo was about 1,200-2,400 EUR on most cars in our search, and up to 4,000 EUR on the Audi A8 at Hertz. Full coverage added to the online booking is the cheaper option, but the normal deposit stays and you claim any damage back from the insurer. The company’s own cover costs more, removes the excess at once and can lower the deposit.
On level 3 of the P1 multi-storey car park, not in the terminal. Leave arrivals on the ground floor, take the covered shelter on your left and follow the P1 signs. Alamo, Enterprise, National, Locauto, Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, SIXT and Flizzr are there. Target Rent, GaldieriRent and Record go pick you up by shuttle, and Dolomiti Rent a Car sends you a meeting point on WhatsApp.
We found 35 companies with ratings at Marco Polo, and 28 had offers in our November search. We recommend 13: Dolomiti Rent a Car, Alamo, Target Rent, GaldieriRent, Enterprise, Locauto, Flizzr, Record go, National, Dollar, Thrifty, SIXT and Hertz, all rated 8.0 or higher with a staff score of 8.0 or higher.
No. The 13 companies we recommend at Marco Polo, Dolomiti Rent a Car included, list cards from online-only banks, such as Revolut, as not accepted, and our search found no deals without a card at pick-up. You need a card from a traditional bank in the main driver’s name.
Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, SIXT and Flizzr work until 23:59 every day, and Alamo, Enterprise, National and Locauto until 23:00. Record go is open until 22:00 and holds your car for 6 hours after the booked time. None of our companies opens before 08:00.
For Venice itself, Marco Polo is closer: Piazzale Roma is about 19 minutes away, against about 37-40 minutes from Treviso. Marco Polo also has more companies that take debit cards, and Dolomiti Rent a Car there blocks no deposit. Some brands were rated higher at Treviso, for example Sicily By Car 8.8 against 7.9 at Marco Polo.
No. Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is the main Venice airport, 13 km by road from Piazzale Roma. Treviso Airport (TSF), often called Venice Treviso, is a different airport about 24 minutes away by car. Check the code on your ticket before you book a car.
No. Cars cannot enter the historic centre. Park at Piazzale Roma, where the city garage costs 35 EUR for 24 hours booked online, or at Tronchetto for about 25-28 EUR a day. You can also park in Mestre and take the train to Venice, about 10 minutes.
Yes, with most of our companies. Locauto, Alamo, Enterprise and National allow it for free, Dolomiti Rent a Car for free with written permission, and Hertz, GaldieriRent, Flizzr and Target Rent for a fee of 30-70 EUR. SIXT, Dollar, Thrifty and Record go do not allow Slovenia or Croatia.
November, at about 15 EUR a day on average across all offers, about half the yearly average of about 30 EUR. March is the next cheapest, at about 19 EUR. July is the most expensive month, at about 43 EUR a day.
The minimum age is 18, at Flizzr and in SIXT’s conditions, on small cars. Dolomiti Rent a Car, GaldieriRent, Target Rent and Record go accept drivers from 19, and Alamo, Enterprise, Locauto and National from 19 on the Toyota Aygo only. Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty start at 21. The conditions we checked for all 13 companies include a young driver fee under 25, and bigger cars need an older driver.
Not with an EU licence. With a UK photocard licence, gov.uk says you need no IDP in Italy, but Target Rent and Record go still ask for one with a UK licence, and Locauto and SIXT’s conditions from drivers who live in the UK. With a licence from another country outside the EU, Italian law asks for an IDP or an official Italian translation, so bring an IDP.
Through Autorentwiz: our search shows the same companies, cars and rental conditions as Discovercars, with our discount applied, so the same car costs less. At Venice Marco Polo Airport we recommend 13 companies. You can also get a free consultation by car rental experts on Messenger, and the discount is the same either way.
For most travellers who land at Marco Polo, the airport is the easier choice: 9 of the 13 companies we recommend have their desks on level 3 of the P1 car park, a covered walk from arrivals. Cars cannot enter the historic centre of Venice, so there is no pick-up in the old city itself. The nearest city pick-up points are on the mainland, such as Mestre station, about 18 minutes from the airport by car.
The desks are not in the terminal but on level 3 of the P1 car park, so allow time for the walk. Dollar holds your car for only 29 minutes if your flight is late and asks for a separate fuel deposit at pick-up. Target Rent and GaldieriRent take credit cards only, and none of the companies we recommend accepts Revolut. SIXT, Dollar, Thrifty and Record go do not allow trips to Slovenia or Croatia.
At Venice Marco Polo Airport, check the deposit and the fuel rules in the offer conditions before you book. Locauto asks for no deposit, only a symbolic 0,01 EUR authorisation on your card. Record go drops its deposit to 0 EUR with its own full cover, but in our search its Hyundai i10 cost about 193 EUR a week with that cover, against about 57 EUR without it. If you already have full insurance, you do not need to buy the rental company’s insurance at the desk as well. Before you return the car, fill up at the Tamoil station on Viale Galileo Galilei, the airport road, about 900 m west of the terminal. The rental company charges much more for missing fuel than the pump price. Film the car from all sides at pick-up and at return.
